Ground-breaking Ceremony for Wuhan Contemporary Ecological Fisheries R&D Base

IHB's director Prof. Zhao Jindong gave an opening speech at the ground breaking ceremony for Wuhan Contemporary Ecological Fisheries R&D Base, Sept. 12.

The ground-breaking ceremony for Wuhan Contemporary Ecological Fisheries R&D Base, built by Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB), was held in Liangzi Lake, Jiangxia District, Wuhan on September 12. Mr. Tang Liangzhi, Mayor of Wuhan, together with Mr. Xing Zaozhong, Deputy Mayor of Wuhan, Mr. Kong Fanwen, deputy director-general of the Bureau of Capital Construction of CAS, Prof. Zhu Yaozhong, president of Wuhan Branch of CAS, and officials from Jiangxia District Government, attended the ceremony. Other invited guests include Mr. Chen Lelong, chairman of P.T.J Golden Pipal Group, staffs from Liangzi Lake Resort Administrative Committee, and journalists from the local press .

The ground-breaking ceremony was chaired by IHB’s deputy director Prof. Hu Zhengyu. IHB’s director Prof. Zhao Jindong addressed at the ceremony. On behalf of the Institute, he expressed his sincere gratitude to the great support given by the officials from Wuhan Municipal Government and Jiangxia District Government and introduced the construction status of the Base. On behalf of Wuhan Municipal Government, Mr. Xing Zaozhong, Deputy Mayor of Wuhan, fully affirmed the IHB’s contribution to the protection of water environment, sustainable development of freshwater fishery, conservation of biodiversity and saving of endangered aquatic animals. He also positively commented on the social benefits generated by the construction of the Base. Finally, Mr. Tang Liangzhi, Mayor of Wuhan, as well as other distinguished guests turned the earth to kick off the construction of the Base.

Wuhan Contemporary Ecological Fisheries R&D Base is a large and comprehensive S&T innovation platform that integrates research and administration, Museum for Aquatic Organisms (exhibition and R&D center for aquatic biodiversity), Baiji Dolphinarium (center for reproduction and conservation of aquatic mammals), R&D center for ecological fishery as well as aquaculture experimental zones. The Base is built as required by the lake/pond compound ecosystem of freshwater fishery and the construction of new countryside in Hubei Province. A complete set of technological system related to breeding, nutrition, aquaculture pattern, ecological water treatment and resources recycling will be established. The Base will also play a demonstrative role in non-polluted lake fishery, pond fishery and high intensive aquaculture.
