The 2010 Symposium on Fish Physiological Ecology was held in Xianning, a prefecture-level city in Hubei Province, during Jan 1 and 3, 2011. The symposium, organized by the Research Group of Fish Physiological Ecology at Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB), gathered over 50 scholars and graduate students from 12 universities, institutes and enterprises throughout China, including Zhejiang University, Feed Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Third Institute of Oceanography State Oceanic Administration, Huazhong Agriculture University, etc.
22 presentations were made at the symposium, covering a variety of topics, i.e. fish nutrition, physiology, feed science and ecology. At the seminar which was held on Jan 3, the symposium attendees exchanged views on issues such as safety evaluation of aquafeed, feed formulation etc. In addition, the students also interacted with each other on how to adapt to the competitive society after graduation.
The memorial events in memory of the 10th anniversary of Prof. CUI Yibo’s death were held as a session of the symposium. Prof. Cui (March 19, 1962-December 30, 2000) is a pioneer in the field of fish bioenergetics in China who devoted to the theoretic study and application of fish bioenergetics and nutrition as well as the functional study of fish in the freshwater ecosystem.
