Authorized by the China Center of Advanced Science and Technology, symposium on Bose-Einstein condensates and degenerate Fermi gases was held by Wuhan Institute of Physics and Mathematics, Chinese Academy of Sciences during September 14 - 16, 2005 at Wuhan.
More than 50 researchers and students attended this meeting. They came from 23 research institutes and universities, including JILA(National Institute of Standards and Technology and University of Colorado), University of Chicago, Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, East China Normal University, Beijing University, Wuhan University, Jining University and Wuhan Institute of Physics and Mathematics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Dr. Cheng Chin from University of Chicago and Dr. Jun Ye of JILA were specially invited and gave talks respectively on ultracold Fermi gases and phase control of ultrafast laser pulses. Other 14 invited and contributed talks presented recent progress made in the fields of nonlinear effect of BECs, collective excitations of superfluid Fermi gases in BCS-BEC crossover, experimental realization of spinor BEC and atomic laser in China, cooling of Ultracold Alkaline earth atoms and experimental progress of molecular Bose-Einstein condensate and degenerate Fermi gas.
This symposium was also assigned as the satellite meeting of the CPS (Chinese Physical Society) fall meeting held also at Wuhan, thus became one part of the World Year of Physics activities.
