The 9th Symposium of World's Chinese Scientists on Nutrition and Feeding of Finfish and Shellfish (SWCSNFFS) was held in Xiamen, Fujian Province during Nov. 12 and 15, 2013. it was organized by Subcommittee of Aquaculture Nutrition and Feeds of China Society of Fisheries and co-organized by Jimei Unviersity, Xiamen University and Fujian Tianma Technology Group Co., Ltd. More than 1,100 experts and scholars attended the Symposium. 480 abstracts were submitted to the organizing committee and 274 posters were made. 19 researchers and students from the Research Group of Fish Physiological Ecology, Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) attended this symposium. The theme of this symposium is "low-carbon, high-efficiency, cooperation and innovation". 10 topics were featured at the symposium: 1. protein nutrition, 2. lipid nutrition, 3. carbohydrate nutrition, 4. vitamin and mineral nutrition, 5. aquatic animal welfare and nutrition, 6. aquatic product safety and quality control, 7. feed quality control and processing technology, 8. reproductive nutrition and larval fish and shrimp nutrition, 9. aquafeed additives, 10. the nutritional strategy for low-carbon aquaculture. IHB Prof. Xie Shouqi gave an oral presentation entitled "A comparative study on the utilization of animal and plant proteins in different strains of silver carp" and Associate Prof. Han Dong gave an oral presentation entitled "Atlantic Salmon is more sensitive to elevated temperature than rainbow trout measured as heat shock responses." The organizing committee also arranged a Forum on Technology Cooperation and Mutual Benefit for Aquafeed Enterprises and a Post-graduate Forum. IHB graduate students Liu Haokun, Zhou Jiancheng, Tu Yongqin and Liu Zhiqiang respectively gave oral presentations at the Post-graduate Forum. IHB doctoral student Wang Cuicui was given the excellent poster award. The SWCSNFFS is the largest gathering for global Chinese aquaculture nutritionists, from academia to industry, and is one of the world's leading communications platforms for discussion of updated achievements in aquatic animal nutrition and feed. It has gained the attention and interest of researchers worldwide. IHB successfully organized the 4th SWCSNFFS and will jointly organize the 10th SWCSNFFS in 2015.
